About Evansville Divorce and Family Attorneys

Evansville Family Attorneys represent clients who are involved in legal proceedings surrounding family issues such as divorce, child support, property settlements, child welfare, adoption, marriage, pre-nuptual agreements, and spousal abuse. Since nearly all Evansville family attorneys also deal with divorce issues, and since a great number of internet users search for divorce attorneys, we have given this category the name "Divorce and Family Attorneys".

In order to avoid excessive category overlap, you will find the following types of attorneys listed in our Family Attorneys section:

Divorce Attorneys

Divorce Attorneys are family attorneys who specialize in divorce but may also practice other areas of family law. When the divorce case involves children, divorce attorneys will usually also deal with the issues of alimony, custody, and child support.

Adoption Attorneys

Adoption Attorneys are family attorneys who specialize in adoption.

Civil Litigation

Some aspects of family law, especially the aspects related to divorce law, are theoretically part of the branch of law commonly referred to as Civil Litigation. In practice however, most divorce attorneys and family attorneys do not branch into other areas of civil litigation. Follow the link to learn more about Civil Litigation Attorneys.

Man gets prison for family assault

Lonnie Jones Jr. will be imprisoned for 40 years after a jury convicted him for hitting his girlfriend several times in the face when she refused to hand him money for drugs.

Willis Smith, a defense attorney with an office in Houston, asked for the minimum—a 25-year sentence for Jones but the judge thought otherwise.

Jones was eligible to be sentenced to life imprisonment because of his previous convictions which also included assault.

Brett Ligon, the district attorney, said that the sentence has made the community a safer place as Jones has been violently violating the laws of Texas.
