The police have also stated that Muniz is not considered guilty until proven otherwise. No bail for man who knocked down a 79YO black manThe bail application of Conrad Barret, who is charged with a hate crime, was denied, something that Barret's lawyer said they have been expecting. Houston criminal attorney George Parnham said that according to the judge, his 27-year-old client might avoid a criminal conviction. He also poses as a danger to the public. Barret was charged after he attacked an old, black man; filmed the act and showed it to someone, who turned out to be an arson investigator. Murder charge dismissed in shooting death of man from TrussvilleThe murder charge filed against Freddie Earl Patton,53, for the shooting death of his girlfriend's father, Kenneth Millar, 81, has been dismissed upon the request of the Deputy District Attorney. An order for Patton's release from jail has been signed, however, he may not be off the hook yet as the DA's office has stated that the case will be turned over to the grand jury in Jefferson County. The prosecution moved for the dismissal after arguing with the defense who wanted to further question the detective about the autopsy report. Birmingham criminal attorney John Lentine said that a manslaughter charge should have been filed instead of murder because the shooting was an accident. If Patton gets indicted, he will have to go back to jail. NFL player's non-cooperation sees theft charges dropped against woman who stole his jewelryTheft charges against Subhanna Beyah were dropped after her victim, New York Giants' Shaun Rogers, refused to cooperate with the authorities. Jonathan Meltz, Beyah's lawyer in Miami, could not be contacted to comment on the issue. Miami prosecutors believed that Beyah did to Rogers what she did to two other men, wherein she drugged them before stealing their valuables. According to the police, Rogers had met Beyah at the nightclub of the hotel where he was staying. Together with another couple, they had gone up to his room where he went to sleep while the others were partying. Before he went to sleep, he put his jewelry inside a safe in the room. When he woke up, Beyah was already gone and so was his jewelry worth almost $500,000. Rogers had told the prosecution that he was not willing to cooperate during the one time he spoke with them. Despite the failure of the theft charges to prosper, the prosecution instead will go ahead with charging Beyah for violating her probation wherein she is looking at a 20-year prison sentence if convicted. Life sentence looms over woman found guilty of murderJeannette Silvia is looking at a life in prison after a jury found her guilty of murdering Michael Ramirez. The body of 59-year-old Ramirez was found inside a motel room paid for by Silvia and her ex-boyfriend, Joseph Santos-Torres, who is also charged in connection with Ramirez's death. Evidence presented in trial showed that Ramirez had paid Silvia for sex then a few days later, Ramirez was made to go to the motel where he was found dead. Sarah Christensen and Phil Dubois, Colorado Springs defense attorneys, downplayed their client, Silvia's participation in the murder, saying that it was Santos-Torres who killed Ramirez and all she did was helped him escape as he had asked. The jury, however, did not buy it. Santos-Torres himself is awaiting trial. |
